Handling practice centers on limiting moisture, heat, and mechanical stress. Powder is typically allowed to reach room temperature before opening so that condensation does not form on the contents, and solutions are prepared with sterile or low-particulate water. Peptides can adsorb to certain plastics and membrane filters, so container and filter material is sometimes specified to reduce losses at low concentrations. Working aliquots are usually frozen separately rather than sampled repeatedly from one stock. Recording lot number, preparation date, and storage conditions supports later comparison between experiments.
Identity and purity are usually assessed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the target peptide from truncated sequences and other synthesis by-products. Mass spectrometry, typically electrospray ionization coupled to liquid chromatography, confirms the expected mass and helps detect modifications. Amino acid analysis can verify composition when residue-level confirmation is needed. Because common impurities differ from the target by only one or two residues, chromatographic resolution often matters more than a single headline purity percentage. Impurity profiles are most informative when compared against a validated reference standard.
The sequence contains an unusually high proportion of proline and glycine, which limits regular secondary structure and contributes to solubility in aqueous media. The compound dissolves readily in water and in normal saline. Because it is a peptide, digestive enzymes are expected to break it down if it is swallowed, a consideration that influences the routes of administration used in animal experiments. Detailed conformational data remain limited, and published structural models are largely computational.
BPC 157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids. The letters stand for body protection compound, and the number is a laboratory code rather than a description of any biological feature. Its single-letter sequence is GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, which corresponds to a calculated mass near 1419.5 daltons. The material is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and is distributed as a lyophilized powder, not as a purified extract from a natural source.
Early work on this family of molecules examined fractions of human gastric juice, where a larger protein was reported to protect gastrointestinal tissue in animal models. BPC 157 was designed as a shorter, more stable fragment of that protein and then studied on its own. The peptide itself is not a normal dietary component and is not present in the human body in meaningful quantities. Descriptions of its origin therefore refer to the research lineage of a laboratory molecule rather than to an endogenous or nutritional substance.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | White to off-white powder | Typical lyophilized form |
| Solubility | Freely soluble in water | Also dissolves in common polar solvents |
| Storage temperature | Minus 20 degrees Celsius or lower | Applies to dry powder, desiccated and dark |
| Typical analytical methods | Reversed-phase HPLC and mass spectrometry | Used together for purity and identity |
| Primary degradation route | Hydrolysis and aggregation | No cysteine present, so disulfide formation is unlikely |
Most published findings come from rodent models, where the peptide has been examined in wound-healing, gastrointestinal-lesion, tendon, and vascular-injury preparations. A smaller number of early human studies have been reported, chiefly in inflammatory bowel conditions, but the public record is short and has not led to marketing approval in the United States or the European Union. Reviewers therefore classify the compound as investigational, and whether animal results carry over to people remains an open question rather than a settled one.
Outside laboratory supply channels, the peptide is sold as a research chemical, a category that carries no requirement to demonstrate purity, identity, or freedom from contamination. Because it is not an approved medicine, products labeled BPC-157 sit in a regulatory gap in many countries, and actual content may differ from the label. Sports organizations list it among prohibited substances, so its presence in an athlete's sample can produce a doping finding regardless of how the material was obtained.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids, written as GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, whose sequence matches part of a larger protein identified in human gastric juice. That parent protein was described in stomach-secretion research, and the fifteen-residue fragment was named body protection compound, which gives the peptide its common label. Material used in experiments is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis rather than extracted from tissue. The reported molecular weight is about 1419 daltons, and the chain contains several proline residues, a feature that appears in discussions of its resistance to enzymatic breakdown.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence is commonly given as Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. It is described in the literature as a fragment of a larger protein found in human gastric juice, referred to as body protection compound. The peptide was first characterized in the early 1990s by a research group in Zagreb, Croatia. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
Within the research literature, the peptide is discussed through several provisional mechanisms, including cytoprotection, modulation of growth factor signaling, and interaction with the nitric oxide system. None of these mechanisms is fully characterized, and no single pathway is universally accepted. Review articles typically note the gap between consistent animal findings and sparse human evidence. The compound is classified as a research chemical rather than an approved pharmaceutical, which shapes how studies are designed, funded, and reported.
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide with the sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, corresponding to a partial fragment of a larger protein detected in human gastric juice. The name derives from the parent protein designation BPC, an abbreviation of body protection compound, with 157 acting as a fraction or batch identifier used by the original investigators. Its molecular weight is approximately 1419 daltons, and the chain contains no unusual residues or disulfide bridges. In the literature it is described as a short, water-soluble fragment rather than a complete natural protein.
Methods incorporating chromatography generally begin with cryo-depleted plasma undergoing buffer exchange via either diafiltration or buffer exchange chromatography, to prepare the plasma for following ion exchange chromatography steps. After ion exchange, generally purification steps and buffer exchange occur. However, chromatographic methods began to be adopted in the 1980s. Developments were ongoing between when Cohn fractionation started emerge in 1946, and when chromatography emerged, in 1983. In 1962, the Kistler and Nistchmann process was created as a spin-off of the Cohn process. In the 1990s, the Zenalb and the CSL Albumex processes were created, which incorporated chromatography with variations. The general approach to using chromatography for plasma fractionation for albumin is: recovery of supernatant I, delipidation, anion exchange chromatography, cation exchange chromatography, and gel filtration chromatography. The recovered purified material is formulated with combinations of sodium octanoate and sodium N-acetyl tryptophanate and then subjected to viral inactivation procedures, including pasteurization at 60 °C. This is a more efficient alternative than the Cohn process because:
In May 2007, Unilever became the first company to commit to sourcing all tea in a sustainable manner. Working with the Rainforest Alliance, an international environmental NGO, Unilever, announced all Lipton Yellow Label tea bags sold in Western Europe would be certified by 2010 and all Lipton tea bags sold globally by 2015. Lipton's own tea estates were among the first to be certified. Lipton tea bearing the Rainforest Alliance seal appeared on Western European markets in 2008 and started appearing in North America in 2009. On 6 May 2009, Lipton received a Corporate Green Globe Award for its work with the Rainforest Alliance. In 2011, PETA criticized Unilever for conducting and funding experiments on rabbits, pigs and other animals in an attempt to make human health claims about the tea's ingredients. According to the animal rights organization, Unilever decided to end the practice after receiving more than 40,000 appeals from PETA supporters and days before PETA made plans to launch its "Lipton CruelTEA" campaign. Unilever no longer tests their products on animals unless required to by governments as part of their regulatory requirements. Unilever reached an agreement in November 2021 to sell the majority of its tea business to private equity firm CVC Capital Partners for €4.5 billion. This included the Lipton brand except where Unilever retained its use for tea in India, Nepal, and Indonesia, for ready to drink teas globally, and for soup mixes in North America. The sale was completed in July 2022, with the new company named ‘Lipton Teas and Infusions’.
==== Roman writers ==== Aulus Cornelius Celsus (fl. 30 BC – 50 AD), who interpreted Greek works in Latin, provided an early clinical description of diabetes in his eight-volume work titled De Medicina. He wrote that "urine exceeds in quantity the fluid taken even if it is passed painlessly." This concept of an imbalance between the ingested and excreted amounts of fluid was repeated by many authors into the Middle Ages. Rufus of Ephesus (fl. 98–117 AD), a physician famous for his work on the variations of the pulse, described the symptoms of diabetes as "incessant thirst" and immediate urination after drinking, which he called "urinary diarrhea".
A more recent preparation method pioneered by the Royal Ontario Museum removes all bones for a complete skeleton while also producing a round skin without bill or legs (called a ROM, though if one set of wing and leg bones remain with the skin the preparation is called a shmoo in North America). Alternatively, the entire bird (or any soft parts associated with preparations described above) may be preserved in alcohol. For any of these methods, several supplemental preparations may be made. For example, a wing may be removed and preserved separately as a spread wing for better study of flight feathers; a tissue sample may be removed and frozen for molecular analyses; or a recording of the bird's song before collection may be archived. Neither molecular samples nor sound recordings require a bird to be collected (killed). Finally, if the bird is too rotten for the skin and feathers to be preserved, as is the case with some salvaged specimens, the skeleton alone may be preserved. Dried tissue is removed from skeletons by using dermestid beetle larvae (genus Dermestes). Whereas in the past arsenic was routinely added to skins to protect them from destruction by insects, specimens prepared today are generally protected by an initial freezing period to kill insects and their eggs followed by keeping them in high-quality museum cases in a climate-controlled room. Each specimen has data associated with it, and the amount of data available is usually directly correlated with the specimen's scientific value.

The use of a drug of last resort may be based on agreement among members of a patient's care network, including physicians and healthcare professionals across multiple specialties, or on a patient's desire to pursue a particular course of treatment and a practitioner's willingness to administer that course. Certain situations such as severe bacterial related sepsis or septic shock can more commonly lead to last resorts. Therapies considered to be drugs of last resort may at times be used earlier, in the event that an agent would likely show the most immediate dose-response related efficacy in time-critical situations, such as high mortality circumstances. Many of the drugs considered last resorts fall into the categories of antibiotics, antivirals, and chemotherapy agents. These agents often exhibit what are considered to be among the most efficient dose-response related effects, or are drugs for which few or no resistant strains are known. When used for the teatment of infectious pathological disease, drugs of last resort are commonly withheld from administration until after the trial and failure of more commonly used treatment options, to prevent the development of drug resistance. One of the most commonly known examples of both antimicrobial resistance and the relationship to the classification of a drug of last resort is the emergence of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), sometimes also referred to as multiple-drug resistant S. aureus, due to resistance to non-penicillin antibiotics that some strains of S. aureus have shown to exhibit. In cases presenting with suspected S.
Desloratadine, sold under the brand name Aerius among others, is a tricyclic H1 receptor inverse agonist that is used to treat allergies. It is the major active metabolite of loratadine. Desloratadine was patented in 1984 and came into medical use in 2001. It was brought to the market in the US by Schering Corporation, later named Schering-Plough.
Blended malt Scotch whisky means a blend of two or more single malt Scotch whiskies from different distilleries. Blended grain Scotch whisky means a blend of two or more single grain Scotch whiskies from different distilleries. Blended Scotch whisky means a blend of one or more single malt Scotch whiskies with one or more single grain Scotch whiskies. The five Scotch whisky definitions are structured in such a way that the categories are mutually exclusive. The 2009 regulations changed the formal definition of blended Scotch whisky to achieve this result, but in a way that reflected traditional and current practice: before the 2009 SWR, any combination of Scotch whiskies qualified as a blended Scotch whisky, including for example a blend of single malt Scotch whiskies. As was the case under the Scotch Whisky Act 1988, regulation 5 of the SWR 2009 stipulates that the only whisky that may be manufactured in Scotland is Scotch whisky. The definition of manufacture is "keeping for the purpose of maturation; and keeping, or using, for the purpose of blending, except for domestic blending for domestic consumption". This provision prevents the existence of two "grades" of whisky originating from Scotland, one "Scotch whisky" and the other, a "whisky product of Scotland" that complies with the generic EU standard for whisky. According to the Scotch Whisky Association, allowing non-Scotch whisky production in Scotland would make it difficult to protect Scotch whisky as a distinctive product.
== Death and legacy == On 7 February 2025, Antonov, at age 53, died in Paris from undisclosed causes. The news was first revealed on Marc Laidlaw's Instagram story a week later, and was confirmed in a statement from Eschatology Entertainment. Many of Antonov's former colleagues paid tribute to him on social media. Laidlaw and Raphaël Colantonio respectively wrote that he was a "visionary" who was "instrumental to the success of Arkane Studios". Ex-Valve writer Chet Faliszek said that he was a "breath of fresh air at Valve", and Arkane designer Harvey Smith praised his "dry, devastating wit". Valve artist Laura Dubuk recalled he was helpful as her mentor when she started at the company. Multiple outlets noted Antonov's influence on the games industry. Aftermath writer Luke Plunkett said that he was key "in defining the visual style of some of most visually-striking video games" ever, which, as John Walker wrote for Kotaku, are "some of the most loved games of all time". Engadget writer Igor Bonifacic claimed, "if there's one person who helped make Half-Life 2 so memorable, it's Antonov", and for Rock Paper Shotgun, Edwin Evans-Thirlwell said that City 17 "continues to influence more pessimistic sci-fi game developers today".

Meanwhile, the PP supported and encouraged by the conservative media called for acts and demonstrations "in defense of Spain." On January 22, 2006, Zapatero reached an agreement on the draft Statute with CiU leader Artur Mas whereby the definition of Catalonia as a nation was relegated to the preamble and its "sovereigntist" elements were nuanced, including autonomous financing and the "bilateral" relationship between the Spanish State and Catalonia. But the Republican Left of Catalonia rejected this pact so the paradox occurred that in the referendum held in Catalonia on June 18, 2006, to approve the new Statute ERC, one of its promoters, called for the "NO", which forced to dissolve the tripartite government and to call new elections for November 1, 2006, to which Pasqual Maragall, forced to withdraw by his own party, no longer ran. The also socialist José Montilla was the new president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, thanks to a new "tri-party" agreement between the PSC, ICV and ERC. For its part, the Popular Party, which also campaigned for the "NO" in the referendum, filed an appeal of unconstitutionality.
"PDES" has generally applied to a wider scope, including, for example, virtual manufacturing techniques, while not necessarily integrating with laboratory equipment. In recent times LIMS functionality has spread even further beyond its original purpose of sample management. Assay data management, data mining, data analysis, and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) integration have been added to many LIMS, enabling the realization of translational medicine completely within a single software solution. Additionally, the distinction between LIMS and LIS has blurred, as many LIMS now also fully support comprehensive case-centric clinical data.
=== Methadone === Methadone has a higher bioavailability and half-life compared to morphine. It is metabolized to an inactive product by N-demethylation by CYP3A4 enzymes in the liver. It has high person-to-person variability because of varying levels of CYP3A4 in individuals. It is approved for treatment of moderate to severe pain as well as opioid dependence. Because of its high risk of drug interactions, liver toxicity, and patient variability, patients have to be monitored closely at methadone clinics. In addition, there is an increase risk of mortality in patients who are treated with methadone compared to other opioids, thought to be due to QTc prolongation and cardiac arrhythmias.
== Veterinary uses == In 2019, GS-441524 was shown to have promise for treating feline infectious peritonitis caused by a coronavirus. It has not been evaluated or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of feline coronavirus or feline infectious peritonitis but has been available since 2019, through websites and social media as an unregulated black market substance. Because GS-441524 is the main circulating metabolite of remdesivir and because GS-441524 has similar potency against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, some researchers have argued for the direct administration of GS-441524 as a COVID‑19 treatment.
==== Data annotation and "ghost workers" ==== Beyond hardware, the development of AI models relies on massive amounts of human labour to label data, train algorithms, and moderate content. This work is frequently outsourced to business process outsourcing (BPO) firms operating in the Global South, particularly in countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, and Colombia. These data labourers, often referred to as "ghost workers", operate in what researchers describe as "digital sweatshops". Workers frequently report exploitative conditions, including low pay (sometimes as little as $2 an hour), forced unpaid overtime, and a lack of job security. Furthermore, content moderators are routinely exposed to graphic, violent, and hateful material in order to train AI safety filters. A 2025 Equidem survey of data workers documented widespread psychological harm, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression resulting from this exposure. In the UK, development experts and technology associations have argued that the UK has a responsibility to address these supply chain abuses. The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) has warned that the uncritical use of AI in international development is morally dubious, noting that AI is often built on "stolen data" labelled using the exploited labour of women in low-income countries. The IDS advocates for a "Responsible AI" approach that removes worker exploitation from the supply chain and ensures fair work practices. Furthermore, techUK, the UK's technology trade association, has criticised the UK Government for falling behind on supply chain regulation.

Reversed-phase liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection gives a purity estimate, while mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and flags modifications. Amino acid analysis can add compositional confirmation. Results are most meaningful when a validated reference standard is run alongside the sample.
Cold, dry, and dark conditions are standard, typically at or below minus twenty degrees Celsius for long-term holding. Vials are usually warmed to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation. Repeated warming and cooling of the same vial is generally avoided.
This depends on pH, buffer, and concentration, with acidic conditions often reported as more favorable. Hydrolysis accelerates at room temperature, so solutions are commonly prepared fresh or stored frozen in single-use aliquots. No single shelf life applies across formulations.
It is a synthetic peptide. Its design was inspired by a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice, but the fifteen-amino-acid molecule itself is made in a laboratory and is not a normal component of food or of human tissue in appreciable amounts.
